Burning Discs: Does Brand Matter?
For Christmas this year, I was trying to make music cd’s that I could give away as gifts to family and friends. In order to do so, I was using software on my MacBookPro that I use almost every day: iTunes. I put in a Staples Brand CD-R and clicked ‘Burn.’
Wikipedia Definition of CD-R: A CD-R (Compact Disc-Recordable) is a variation of the Compact Disc invented by Phillips and Sony. CD-R is a “Write Once Read Many” (WORM) optical medium, though the whole disk does not have to be entirely written in the same session…”
However, when the disc finished burning, instead of getting the normal chime that iTunes makes when the disc is finished, I got an error message! AN ERROR MESSAGE! “The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred.” I figured… “Maybe that disc was bad” so I took the next disc in the package and tried again.
–No Cigar!–
So, I decided to try a Memorex CD-R (That’s what I usually get) and it worked again! I wondered if anyone else had this problem, so I did a quick google search and found this thread over at Apple; apparently, other people are having the same problem. I’m headed to the Apple Store on wednesday, so I’ll have to ask why this is happening.
